Whose Film Is It Anyway? + Ardal O’Hanlon

Wednesday 23rd June – Roisin Dubh – 8.30pm, €15 / 12.50 online

Super8 Shots starts with a Bang in the Roisin Dubh with Super8 Comedy event not to be missed, followed by Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted).

What is “Whose film is it anyway”?

A bunch of improvisers take a selection of old super 8, B-movies, and random film footage, string it all together, and, live in the venue, they improvise all the ‘dialogue’ and a few sound effects too! The result is hilarious set of subtext, unexpected plot twists, and lines you never thought you’d hear!
In our show tonight, the improvisers come from two excellent groups – The Spontaneous Theatre People, Snatch Comedy and music by Morgan Cooke.

The Spontaneous Theatre People have performed improv and theatre to acclaim, on both sides of The Atlantic. Founding members have worked with, among others: Jet City Improv, Unexpected Productions, with Ryan Styles (Whose Line..) at his Upfront Theatre in Washington, and also at various festivals in Ireland, Europe and the US. The Spontaneous Theatre People will also be hosting regular improv workshops for newbies @ The Róisin soon. For more info go to spontaneoustheatre.com

Formed in 2002, Snatch Comedy has been wowing audiences from Cork to Carlow with their strong improvisational skills. Snatch perform regularly with their short-form and long-form improv shows. They have a strong following, and are delighted to be gigging in The Róisin.

Headling the night with Stand-up will be the wonderful Ardal O’Hanlon.

Ardal and his friends, Kevin & Barry, established Ireland’s first alternative comedy club – The Comedy Cellar in 1992. In 1994, he won the title of Comedy Newcomer of the Year and was soon spotted by the makers of Father Ted and he soon shot to fame playing the dim-witted Father Dougal Maguire.
He made the role his own and it kickstarted his television comedy career in which he has since starred in Big Bad World and was the host of The Stand Up Show on BBC. He has guest-starred in shows such as Shooting Stars and 100 Greatest TV Characters.
His most successful role to date has been that of Thermoman – alias mild-mannered shopkeeper, George Sunday – in the BBC sitcom, My Hero.
A multi awarding winning comedian Ardal is one of the most acclaimed stand-up comedians to emerge from the Irish comedy scene, ever.

MC for the night is Mr. Ian Coppinger – One of Ireland’s busiest comedians Ian is a regular on the world comedy circuit having played to packed houses at the Edinburgh, Melbourne, Montreal Just for Laughs, Galway, Electric Picnic, Glasgow, Dublin, Adelaide and Wellington comedy festivals. Ian is also one of a handful of acts who have been invited back year after year to perform at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival since 1995 and he has performed throughout Europe, the Middle East and Far East.
