An evening of Film Projections captured in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s from Galway and the West of Ireland. Let’s reels in the years 8mm style loveeeeen!
Before video came in and people started recording hours and hours of boring “surveillance tape” type footage, they were limited to 3 minute long Super8 reels, which made family footage a lot more interesting to watch, as emphasis was placed on quality, not quantity.

Do you remember those evening where family members would gather around a super8 film projector and watch movies on the wall? This is what the Galway Wonder Years is about. Join the Super8 Shots family.
The Galway Wonder Years has been created from stunning archival 8mm footage of Galway and Connemara which was filmed by amateur film makers. It includes footage of JFK’s visit to Galway in 1963, the Great Galway Fire of 1971, the Galway Blazers Hunt and many other scenes of daily life from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.
The Galway Wonder Years will be run in conjunction with The Irish Wonder Years, with discounts for those who wish to attend the two events: Only 12 euros instead of €8/7 per show.
The Irish Wonder Years showcases footage filmed throughout Ireland from the 1930s to the present. Highlights include never before seen footage of Thin Lizzy and Rory Gallagher, and will give you the chance to see these great musicians from the perspective of someone who was standing in the audience back in the 1970’s. An event not to be missed.
